"The Top" is the 5th studio album of seminal post-punk / gothic rock band The Cure.

With the incorporation of folk, psychedelic and ethnic elements "The Top" is the band's most experimental work to date, though much of the gloomy strains and post-punk melodicism of earlier Cure albums were retained throughout this album's duration.

Reception to "The Top" has been varied since its release. Some fans criticize the album for being too unusual while others praise its emotional complexity citing tracks like "Wailing Wall" and "The Empty World" as among The Cure's very best material to date. "The Top" was also a moderate commercial success which furthered Cure's exposure to music fans around the world. It entered 180th in The Billboard 200 for 1984.

The album was followed by a world tour that same year.
