my takeaway is that Anthology shows a more vulnerable side coaxed with style of folkmore whereas standard takes in all the trauma then brewing those maniac spillage of a hotpot

This is nothing like midnights cause midnights was horrible and the 3am version even worst

i am autistic i dont question the workings of my mind lmao i obssesed about it back then cause the lyrics were good as usual but i didnt liked the lack of emotion of the album, i dont know if it was on purpose because of the depression and midnight theme and things of sort but I both listened to it a lot and didnt like it, coming from a place of someone who's been a fan since 2009, i have high standards.

First impressions: The first half of the album is ok, but the second is a sleep aid, just few tracks made me want to listen again. Taylor once again rehashes the themes of heartbreak, unresolved disagreements, reliving failed relationships and predictive blah blah blah stuff. Musically, everything sounds similar to things she has done in previous works. Taylor seriously needs to expand her lyrical themes and change producers, because she's stuck in a comfort zone that she apparently never leave, or at least not anytime soon...

the more i listen to it, the more it gets better. maybe people felt overwhelmed by the need to consume it as fast as they could and felt tired. but I was like discovering one song at a day, and honestly, it does not deserve the hate it is getting.

Her overexposure was the primary downfall to this album's critical response. This is probably her third or fourth best album amongst all of her work, and it still feels too early for me to rank this album against the others. I've been buying and listening to her music since fearless, and the whole record sonically resembles fearless, speak now, and red more than her later work. I suppose that's why I love the whole thing so much.

i agree 100%, not because i think this album is great but because the idea that midnights is better is so ludicrous. i'm not sure it will ever get its flowers like lover eventually did, but it's at least going to raise a few spots on people's album rankings

The average songwriter has probably ideas for over 100 songs in 5 years, takes 10-12 of the best every now and then an puts them an an album. Taylor just turns everything that comes to her mind into a song and releases it. And because her fans buy everything we now have something like this. Next year we will probably have a new album with the next 50 demos...

eh they’re there, albeit more subtle! I’d say the most beautiful and rewarding hooks that have potential to grow are those in… Fortnight, BDILH, Guilty as Sin?, ICDIwaBH, Clara Bow, The Black Dog, The Albatross, and So High School

i don't think it's subtle it's just largely non existent. but daddy i love him, broken heart and so long london are the better ones but a good hook shouldn't take multiple listens to grow for you

fair! yeah she's definitely taking the approach of "the bare minimum" sort of melodism. idk, as a songwriter, that can sometimes work, but when it's plastered over 31 tracks which touch on similar lyrical themes it can get a bit tedious. I do quite like But Daddy I Love Him, Guilty as Sin?, and Clara Bow but to be honest I don't think I'll return to most of these songs very much in the long term

I finally made it, I listened to the same song 31 times! Though it got quite boring I am really exhausted and my head aches now.

listening to this album by rediscovering tracks that i didn't pay much attention to maybe me loved it even more. do i think people underestimated? yes, but to each their own. there are some songs here that hit quite hard. loml is definitely the best track here, maybe her saddest song yet. the black dog is a masterpiece and that part where she talks about selling her house and calling a priest to exorcize her demons has stuck with me. clara bow is underappreciated. jack's production isn't so bad after all but her and dessner are a match made in heaven.

this is why i don't preorder album's anymore. i had a feeling this wouldn't be her best only because of how soon after midnight's this is, i mean she's been touring the world so being able to create a top tier album during that time just doesn't sound believable to me i'm sorry. i'm not hating on her i think she's a decent person, she has a lot of amazing songs, she puts on great shows, i have lots of good things to say about her so please don't take my comment the wrong way this is just my opinion.

She’s providing music for her fans, what’s bad about that? The anthology has no physical version

31 freaking songs. she always releases a new album every 2 years but she would never do this many songs. i forgot how many were included in the other editions of midnights but she clearly is feeding her fans too much. i don’t blame her for wanting to get the rerecordings done quickly, but 31 new songs is too much, and if the theories that she’ll release a third version of the album is coming soon i’m gonna eat my shirt. as many say, quality > quantity

There’s both quality and quantity especially with songs like so long London, loml, how did it end?, the prophecy having some of her best songwriting ever

she doesn’t deserve the main pop girl, this album is the most boring pop you’ll hear, she went really bad after Lover
